Green Productions

Commitment to greener and more sustainable productions:

My practice is based on continuous research of people and their relations with one another, with other species and with their environments as well as how humanity and human experiences gain presence in films and materialise in the characters and shapes we create.

My continuous effort and commitment is to work in greener, more sustainable, and more ethical ways. In the process, I don’t specifically think about greener productions. It is the basic and foundational orientation for the work that I do. Earlier in my career, I did not talk to producers or directors about working in greener, more sustainable and more ethical ways, I just did it. Now, I begin with this statement as I find it important to take a stronger stance and make more direct statements. I not only want to change the way I work, but contribute to the change in the culture and practices of the industry that I am part of and try to influence people to change their ways of thinking and acting.

I gather my team from people with similar ideologies and ethical goals and I ask my team to commit to work according to more sustainable principles. What I have noticed is that the team around me, and the whole production team, are now more committed and trying to help me find better ways to work to protect the environment and to only support productions that are ethical according to environmental and human rights issues.

Commitment & changing working cultures:

Sharing this commitment to ethical and sustainable cultures and working environments increases support for one another. Ethical values and morals are now shared more openly and even very problematic issues are being discussed, because this commitment to support one another builds trust. When the team believes that we have the power to change our ways of thinking, making, creating and practicing, it brings the team closer, and in turn, generates better working environments. Honesty and openly sharing struggles of finding better and more ethical solutions gives the process meaning and makes working more layered as connections are made to issues such as sustainable energy production solutions and dignified labour.
